Produce Safety Technicians can do all the testing for you!

For post-harvest water (hand washing, produce washing, cleaning, etc.), you must use water that tests as no detection of generic E. coli!

As per the FSMA Produce Safety Rule’s new Water Rule, testing your irrigation water is not required in order to complete your Agricultural Water Assessment (if you are GAP audited and your audit requires water testing, keep testing at that frequency. The change in water testing being required ONLY applies to FSMA PSR). However, if you use well water, receiving no detection of generic e.coli from a water test exempts you from doing the Ag Water Assessment! Additionally, if you use a pond, creek, or another form of surface water for irrigation, it’s hard to complete an accurate assessment without first knowing what’s in the water. Thus, a water test is strongly recommended.

Contact your local Technician so they can come out, take the test, deliver it, and pay for it! Your local Technician is a free, voluntary, confidential resource– everything we see, stays with us. We can also help you write your ag water assessment, identify risks and next steps, provide cost-share, and so much more.
